On belay! During a recent trip out to Smith Rock State Park for a commercial video shoot, climbing guide Matt Pennock took myself and Nathan Ingram up Moscow, a tame climbing route near misery ridge. Despite an easy 5.6 rating, the 4-pitch trad climb still proved challenging. It had been approximately two years since I had last rock climbed, and now I was faced with something new, cracks. Bloody hands went numb in the cold, wintery afternoon as I crammed my fists, feet and knees into narrow slits amidst the ongoing dihedral. It felt so right being up there. I was also pleased to have brought along my camera, for at the end of each pitch there was opportunity from my personal anchor to document Matt on belay and Nathan fast approaching behind me. Climb on!
