Although the entire situation was beyond ominous, could I look back and say I was afraid? The answer, of course, is yes. No climbing experience has been as frightening as entering a dead-end gully taken off Leuthold Couloir’s proper route and at the end of such a gully nearly depleting all strength. Then the Lord sparred us within minutes from being taken out by a massive avalanche, something we learned of days later. Ominous? His presence. Thank you Jesus!
