Reportage - War: 05.25.09

Fittingly enough chapter 9 of a book I’m reading this month, titled What in the World Is Going On?, tied nicely into today, being Memorial Day Observed. The book itself speaks of the fulfillment of end time prophecies written in the Bible. The following is quoted from author David Jeremiah off page 190 of chapter 9, Arming for Armageddon:
“Our nation is no stranger to war. According to the US Army Military Institute, the United States has been involved in twenty-nine wars or military conflicts. This averages out to one war for every eight years of America’s history. … Approximately 1,314,971 troops have died for their country in these wars. This includes 25,000 who died in the War of Independence; 623,026 in the Civil War; more than 400,000 in World War II; more than 58,000 in Vietnam; and nearly 4,000 in the current conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. (That number has increased to more than 4,000 since the report was published.)”
The following photographs are of the Oregon Vietnam Memorial and I suggest to anyone who has not already done so to visit the site and remember those who fought for this nation’s freedom. The memorial is a beautiful display of heroism.
